Jackie Nash

Sculpting a vibrant new home for a mosaic artist.

Overview.

Jackie Nash is an experienced mosaic artist and a passionate teacher, known for her vibrant, colourful mosaics that breathe new life into ordinary spaces. With a unique eye for detail and a love for bold design, she transforms everyday environments and objects into uplifting, extraordinary works of art.

With the support of Arts Council England, Jackie Nash approached me to redesign and relaunch her website, giving her business the digital uplift it deserved.

Brief.

Jackie Nash’s existing website had been in place for almost twenty years and no longer reflected her current work, and more importantly, the work she aspired to create. The mosaic artist wanted a modern, responsive and accessible website which reflected her new brand identity, and a place which communicates her portfolio effectively.

As a busy artist who has limited time to manage a digital presence, the website needed to be efficient, utilise reusable components, integrate seamlessly with various platforms and include low ongoing running costs.

There were four key objectives:

  • To showcase current commissions and generate new commission enquiries.

  • To generate workshop bookings via an easy-to-use calendar and online payment system.

  • To develop an online shop to sell small-scale work and process payments.

  • Be bright, colourful and fun!

Response.

After understanding Jackie Nash’s audience, objectives and broader aims for the future, I worked closely with her to craft a simple but modern UI centred around large photography, subtle animated text and colourful highlights. This is most evident in the ‘Portfolio’ section, which provides visitors with a new way to browse, read and understand Jackie’s work. It was also imperative, for both workshops and commissions, that we make it clear how her simple three-step process worked.

Additionally, to really bring the website to life, I shot and edited portrait and on-site photography for her latest mosaics, particularly Primrose Hospice. Over the coming months, both of us will begin photographing other projects to bring consistency to all imagery across the site.

One of the most striking elements on the website is the fundamental colour combinations, opting for a palette of pastel shades to evoke feelings of calmness, peace and joy for visitors. Every time we touched on Jackie’s personality and motives during discovery, it always came back to how her work makes people feel, so this was crucial to the heart of the site.

The technology used to build the website was Squarespace. This platform was chosen for easy integration with Mailchimp, Acuity Scheduling, Tracking and a Shop (in future) and will provide a painless content management system going forward. Using this CMS also meant we could work through feedback in a much more agile way.

Results.

Jackie Nash’s website has been dramatically enhanced, and with a new CMS bedding in, it puts her in a prime position to take her business to the next level.

I’ll be monitoring how content is being consumed and begin suggesting enhancements and optimisations.

“Charlie has been so supportive throughout the whole process – incredibly professional, efficient, and really easy to work with. He has a lovely, personable manner, is honest, and most importantly, has done an outstanding job designing and launching my new website and taking care of the other services I needed. He really knows his stuff and made what could have been a stressful process feel simple and straightforward.”
